Thomas J. Leary, age 85, of Jackson St., Jamestown passed away Monday afternoon, January 21, 2019 in St. Paul's Senior Living Community.

He was born in Greenville on February 1, 1933, a son of Ernest W. and Florence (Wood) Leary. Tom served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On September 13, 1957 Tom married the former Kathleen “Kay” Poole, she passed away October 22, 2009.

Tom was employed as a brick layer at Brick Layers Union for 40 years until his retirement. He attended Westford United Methodist Church. He was the founder of the Jamestown Veterans Honor Guard #5424, life member and assistant chief of the Jamestown V.F.D. #89 for 20 years, a member of the Jamestown V.F.W, and was a council member for the Jamestown Borough. Tom played baseball for the Jamestown Redbirds and coached little league baseball.

He is survived by a son; Pat Leary and his wife Judy of Washington, PA, three daughters; Lori Leary of Linesville, Linda Lorigan and her husband Ron of Jamestown, and Julie Legters and her husband Steve of Butler, PA, a sister; Suzanne Courtney of Jamestown, seven grandchildren, two great grandsons, and a great granddaughter.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers, Robert Leary, Lewis Leary, John Leary, Lloyd Leary, James Leary, and an infant brother, Billy J. Leary.

    Tom was such a pleasure at the VFW in Jamestown. We have missed his smiling face. We miss hearing all his war stories and his good sense of humor. Tom and I would heckle each other every day. I have missed him. Rest In Peace my friend.

    We will truly miss Tom (also Kay). Great people always loved talking to them. They loved it when Grant delivered their paper, also when Tom and Grant would spend time talking about the fire department. Station 89 will truly miss him as will we. RIP Tom

    Kay and I (Janet) were neighbors from age 6. She was like a sister and we shared many memories. We loved Tom, his sense of humor and the many stories he would tell. We will remember him forever. Sympathies to the family.

    The dedication of music and photos brought back so many memories of growing up with the Leary family. Tom and Kay were one very special loving couple. Such fun at the “Leary Reunions”. Toms contagious laughter was something you can always remember. Such a dedicated soldier and servicemen to his community. Our town and families were all blessed to have him in it. Prayers and love to his family. Tom and Kay together once again ♥️♥️
